Producers of the upcoming Academy Awards telecast may be caught between Chris Rock and a hard place. #OSCARSSOWHITE RETURNS AFTER ACADEMY NOMS SNUB MINORITIES AGAIN The comic actor is facing pressure to bow out as host of the 88th annual Oscars — with less than six weeks to go before the Feb. 28 telecast — over the mounting calls for boycotting the awards in response to the lack of diversity among the Oscar nominees. On Monday’s holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., both Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith announced they would not be attending the Academy Awards to protest a second straight year without a black actor receiving a single nomination. RELATED: SPIKE LEE, JADA PINKETT SMITH BOYCOTTING OSCARS "I don't think Chris would bail — if anything, this gives him the world's biggest platform and an excellent area for jokes that only he can do,” Dave Boone, who wrote nine Oscar telecasts and was the head … [Read more...] about Could Chris Rock drop out as Oscars host over increasing calls to boycott Academy Awards?

Here are some of inside dramas worth watching when Uzo Abuda from "Orange is the New Black" and Cat Deeley break out the nominees Thursday. 1. Will "Empire" score major hardware? The Fox drama became the hottest broadcast hit of the past season, with acclaimed performances by Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson and others. This would seem to set it up for a bushel of awards. Or not. 'EMPIRE' CASTS KELLY ROWLAND TO PLAY LUCIOUS' MOM; FOX DRAMA ALSO LANDS MARIS TOMEI, CHRIS ROCK, OPRAH WINFREY, AND ALICIA KEYS The Academy has no aversion to sex and violence, but voters do seem to draw lines if they feel a show is, say, too soapy. Woody Johnson is trying to do the right thing. He’s not a meddling owner — he just likes to be in the loop about what’s going on with his team. Before John Idzik put Johnson’s wallet in a safe deposit box and threw away the key for two years, Johnson was always willing to spend to win. It was a good idea hiring consultants Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf, who built Super Bowl teams, to lead his general manager and coaching search. The Jets have gone about this methodically. RELATED: SEATTLE'S DAN QUINN CALLS JETS HIS TOP CHOICE, SOURCES But as the process winds down, it appears the Johnson-Casserly-Wolf contingent has identified Texans scouting director Mike Maccagnan as the GM and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as the coach.
